What We Want: Property of the Week - 43 Tuscaloosa, Atherton

We're back on Tuscaloosa Avenue in Atherton this week where we're taking a peek in what might just be one our favorite homes to date. Tuscaloosa Avenue is undergoing a bit of a transformation. This stately and quiet street was once lined with 50's and 60's era sprawling ranchers on what locals call, an "Atherton Acre" (lots range from .96 - 1.06 acres).  With the great economic growth in the valley, we've seen the ranchers disappear and large, stately homes take their place.  While some homes indeed look like testaments to the owners, this home blends better in with its' surroundings and looks welcoming.

Nestled among heritage oaks, this newly built home includes 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 2 partial baths, and a full basement in 12,600 square feet.  This Atherton estate was designed and built by the renowned Pacific Peninsula Group in Menlo Park, CA.

We love the open floor plan of this house, with large open spaces that flow well.  We love the living and dining room combination. From the wall of windows that leads to the backyard to the flooring, lighting, and simplicity of the space. While each room is stunning on their own, the combination is simply beautiful.

Moving into the great room of the home, you'll find another simple yet beautiful space.  We're obsessed with the well thought out kitchen. The combination of both traditional and open concept cabinets, the subway tile that goes from countertop to ceiling, the lighting and the large island make this a great room for any chef and their family.  The family room portion of the great room includes a large fireplace, access to the backyard through large paneled glass doors, and a large area for seating.  And the eat-in dining room, an area often overlooked, has two walls of windows that bring the outside in.

The first floor of the house also includes an office.  The built-ins along the wall match the overall look and feel of the house. The lighting is simple and the windows are large, really framing the outside space as a piece of art within the room.

Upstairs the master bedroom doesn't disappoint. It's a large and airy space, with plenty of room for a large-scale furniture. The walk-in-closet would make Carrie Bradshaw happy with plenty of room for your wardrobe.  In keeping with the overall design of the home, the master bathroom is simple with clean lines, backlit mirrors, an oval free standing tub and stunning shower.

On the lower level of the home, you'll find the basement.  This basement is large and houses a large seating area with fireplace, a stunning bar, room for a pool table, home theater, and home gym.  There's a patio just outside so the architect incorporated a wall of glass surrounding this area which really helps keep this area light and bright.

Outside the home you'll find a large manicured lawn, pool, an covered seating area and, perhaps one of our favorite areas of the home, a sunken outdoor kitchen with lounge area.

Like we said earlier, this might be one of our favorite homes this year. We love how well thought out it is and the overall simplicity of the space from a design perspective.  This home is offered by Lance Freeman at PPG and more pictures of the home may be found here.
